Zoe Martell, a California native, creates abstract work that is influenced by both the beauty of nature and by the chaotic energy of urban life. Her more geometric and linear pieces speak to the experience of life in the city, drawing beauty from every-day sources of inspiration such as grid locked freeways and steam radiators. Her more organic works, also non-representational, echo the palette of California through the seasons: green hills into brown, the occasional thunder storm, a blazing field of California poppies. Her work does not discriminate between natural and man-made beauty, but rather celebrates the art inherent in each.

Zoe studied fine art at Humboldt and San Francisco State Universities in the late 1980s and early 1990s. After returning to school in her 30s, Zoe completed a masters degree in clinical psychology in 2003. She currently works as a psychotherapist intern, accruing hours towards licensure as a therapist in California. Zoe's primary artistic focus is on abstract in acrylic, and creating mixed-media abstract pieces on canvas.
