ABOUT GINA COCHRAN
I can’t remember a point in my life when I wasn’t creating or thinking about it, but it wasn't until I finished my graduate work in counseling and actually began working in the field that I finally realized how truly necessary it was for me. About 7 years ago, with the support and encouragement of my husband, I decided to take a break from the mental health field. Since then I have been painting full time.
I am self-taught, garnering knowledge and advice where I can; time, experience, life, trial and error – all wonderful teachers. The style of my work evolves and changes with my mood. Humor, emotion, and sometimes even a little playful sarcasm find their way into my work. I approach each piece with something of an idea, but rarely is the finished piece what I initially envisioned; it's taken time and much patience to realize that my best work happens when I “let go” and allow myself to play. When this happens the organic nature of each piece is revealed and with seemingly little guidance from me, each piece seems to actualize in my hands.
