ABOUT J HILLMAN BROWN

After graduating with a degree in art at David Lipscomb College in Nashville, TN, John began painting portraits with pastels. A couple of years later, he began painting with oils and acrylic using landscapes as his primary subject. He tried to provoke an emotion from the viewer in his artwork by mixing coffee, wax, and stains in his art. This mixed-media adds depth and texture.

"I like the quietness and stillness that occurs right after a storm. I try to abstract the images of the landscape to capture that moment."

After working as a gallery director in several Nashville galleries, he decided to focus mainly on his own art and his friends' art. John places artwork into galleries, festivals, hotels and restaurants across the southeast. He currently works with artists based in Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and Virginia.
