ABOUT KAREN WALKER MULLINS
I first discovered my love of art as a child as I quickly realized that I was somewhat different than other children as I was satisfied with spending many hours drawing and creating alone. Childhood also proved to be difficult for me as I was diagnosed with dyslexia, and used my creative outlet in art to help me through the difficult times using my talent to fit in among my classmates. Finally I felt I truly belonged in high school when I was accepted into a fine arts center.
After graduating from high school I married and put my art aside as my attention was needed for my growing family but I continued to feel the need to create. This need was fulfilled when I discovered the art museum in my hometown of Greenville, South Carolina, falling in love with black and white photography in a graphic arts class. In this graphic arts class I studied the pen and ink techniques of crosshatching and stippling which is the use of a dot pattern to create the subtle value changes in an image. I have since tried many different art mediums but my true passion remains pen and ink as I enjoy the detail work that this technique requires.
As always, my personal art ideas are inspired by nature, but I continue to expand these ideas by the many other beautiful things I see in my surroundings.
