I’m exploring ideas and the possibilities of the figure being used as a vessel-with images of the figure becoming intermingled with other images symbolic of thoughts or emotions. Thinking about how I can paint the equivalent of what it’s like to move through the spatial qualities of the human figure and the battle between dissolving and immersing the figures on the picture plane. I’m questioning how much information is needed for it to still read as a figure but not force an interpretation. I’m exploring areas of interaction and am reluctant to assign a fixed or controlled meaning to my pieces. I’m more interested in the unfixed nature of things and like to allow for shifts and changes in content. Painting areas of trapped energy vibrating in space and areas of energy spewing out, I want the viewing of the piece to approximate the experience of being inside a figural world.
