ABOUT MORGAN ALEXANDER
This body of work reflects observations of passing moments – looking occasionally to the present and the world outside, but mostly concentrating inward to the self and backwards toward memories of things past. Many of the pieces reflect the imperfect structures of memory and experience – forming, over time, a personal view of history that, like all histories, holds different meanings and truths for each participant. Like memory, these surfaces are layered, pitted, and frayed – one detail decays, another prickles insistently, and some, it seems, become lost altogether. The lines and scraps of misplaced or discarded materials echo the structures that support living processes – labor, geometry, bones, and the grid. In between, the seams of old repairs and the marks of daily passing quietly reflect the peace of stillness, the desolate beauty of decomposition, and the comfort of well-worn implements.
